POSITION SUMMARY
The Sales and Design Consultant provides an in-home customer experience by designing and selling closets, cabinetry, home offices, garages, media centers and other storage solutions for homes.
Our in-home customer experience includes taking multiple meetings per week where designer will measure space and design on-site with proprietary CAD software. Designer is also responsible for working with internal team on ordering necessary materials, scheduling installations and managing all sold projects to completion.
Designers are responsible for meeting monthly and yearly sales goals set forth by closing business from assigned leads and self-generated leads.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Brand Experience Responsibilities:
- Design Consultants play a critical role in building strong relationships with customers and representing the brand through demonstration of our Company Core Values while also executing all steps in the Facilitative Sales Cycle
- Commute using personal vehicle to customers’ home for a needs analysis to design a unit
- Manage both company and self-generated leads from start to finish. This includes a 24-hour turnaround time for introductory call, designing on-the-spot during consultations, uploading required documents into CXM (Salesforce), follow up with the customers and collaborating with installation team to ensure job completion, visiting installations to ensure effective project management and expectations align with contracted project.
- Design Consultants are required to complete an average of 12-15 new client consultations per month
- Create goals and manage your “Personal Marketing Plan”, for self-generated leads while building relationships with existing customers and pursue referrals/repeat business
- Monitor your performance metrics at all times in company’s prescribed software (monthly, YTD, close rate, average sale and sales per consultation)
- Meet weekly for 1:1 with sales leader and regularly review performance metrics. Prepare for mid-month projection via Goal, Setting, and Review meetings
- Design Consultants are required to maintain the highest standards of quality in every aspect of their work to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Respond to all internal and external emails/phone calls within a 24-hour period within business working hours.
- Follow and understand industry trends including fashion, design, and organization.
Technology Responsibilities:
- Utilize the Cal Closets Retail Inc. cloud-based software (SalesForce) for managing contracts, opportunities, scheduling meetings, and documenting every contact and next step with customers.
- Maintain customer records: (including but not limited to…) All contact related correspondence, interaction, and clear next steps; relevant documents related to each customer; identify, evaluate, and design solutions to meet the needs of the customers; accurately design project(s) for customers through CAD program; maintain high quality standards and assure each project is completed correctly, in addition, partnering with national plan review team for complexity meetings and/or making changes to the design. Request support from the sales leadership team if encountering difficulties with customer designs or project complexities.
Design Consultant Availability Expectations:
- Attend company meetings or functions as required, including monthly GS&Rs, monthly sales meetings, and sales training meetings.
- Available for appointments 5 days a week. This includes one evening a week (after 5pm), and 2 appointments two weekend days (Saturday or Sunday) per month.
- Consultation expectations: 4 new appointments per week, depending on the volume of incoming leads, the number of sales consultants, workload, and performance. There is no guarantee of a minimum number of leads from Corporate Lead Sources; therefore, may need to rely on Personal Marketing and Prospecting (PMP) efforts to meet monthly consultation expectations.
- Work with Sales Manager to set minimum 40 “Operating Hours” per week in applicable software systems. This open availability specifies windows for new opportunities and blocks of time set aside for designing, personal marketing, networking, and follow-up appointments.
- Showroom duty requirements: Work 2-3 showroom shifts per month.
- Participate in a rotating work schedule in the local Showroom(s) and meet clients in the showroom agreed upon appointment times with customers, as required.
- Make every effort to accommodate reasonable customer requests for meeting days, times, and locations. Appointments are scheduled primarily based on customer needs, considering factors such as customer availability, drive time, designer availability, and performance.

Competencies :
- Understanding a range of work procedures and practices, some of which are non-routine, which require a base level of specialized/technical knowledge. Acquired through some formal training or equivalent experience.
- Requires the skill to persuade, influence, and/or negotiate with others on a regular basis
- External communication that includes clients, vendors, gov’t agencies, and service providers
- Internal Communication that includes manufacturing, corporate, and other CCO teams.

SKILLS & ABILITIES
- College Degree Preferred
- High School Diploma Required
- Interior design education, direct industry experience or proven passion for home décor
- 2+ years of direct selling consultative sales experience within a business to consumer environment, preferably in high-end furniture, design showrooms, or luxury retail environments
- Ability to learn new software programs quickly; Tech savvy with the ability to quickly learn and apply various business systems (CAD, Salesforce, Microsoft Office, etc)
- Ability to provide an exceptional client experience aligned to the company values.
- Professional and assertive, consultative sales skills.
- Detail oriented, organized and with time and project management skills.
- Self-starter and ability to manage own schedule working remotely.
- Understanding the importance of repeat customers, referrals and cultivating relationships.
- Experience in customer service or retail sales of any kind, where the consultant is the reason for repeat clients.
- The ability to be consistently inspirational and create delightful customer and brand experiences.
- A proven record of sales success.
- Confidently able to sell and promote a product you might not be able to personally afford.
- Team player with the ability to manage a portfolio of projects and clients of different complexity in a dynamic environment.
- Proven customer service / support experience
- Thorough knowledge of millwork and related materials and hardware (i.e door styles, finishes, decorative hardware, countertop surfacing, glass or molding)
- Strong communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
- Strong phone contact handling skills and active listening
- Demonstrates excellent critical thinking and reasoning abilities to identify and resolve potential issues.
- Ability to work with all employees to create a forward-moving, positive work environment.
- Proficient in math (i.e. Fractions and unit measurements)
- Must possess an unwavering commitment to foster a safe and event-free work environment
CERTIFICATES & LICENSES
- Valid driver’s license, current vehicle registration and a driving record that is acceptable to the company. Minimum vehicle insurance coverage and ability to maintain vehicle in good repair.
